Monster Cookies

Chewy, sweet, salty, these Monster Cookies have it all! And best of all, they are a no guilt treat because they are naturally sweetened with honey, not cane sugar.

Yes, you read that correctly, these cookies are made without cane sugar, and honestly, you wouldn’t even know it. These cookies have become favorite in our family. They are the cookies my nephews ask for when we all get together. Because they are that good!

We make a few adjustments for them to be healthier. Yet, they have the traditional texture of a monster cookie with the oats and peanut butter.

Monster cookies, to me, are one of those nostalgic cookies that remind of me of my childhood. My mom would make them a lot, so it is fun to make these for my own family now. Make these cookies, and I promise they will be a part of your family’s favorites too! Let us know what you think in the comments!

Details & Tips

These cookies have a nutty flavor from the peanut butter, obviously. But we really ramp it up with browning the butter. This is an added step and can most definitely be skipped if you don’t have time, but it is a really easy thing to do that will give the cookies a deeper flavor.

These cookies are using the traditional monster cookie recipe, but adding a few swaps to make them a healthy snack or cookie option. They still have that chewy texture from the oats and the sweet but salty combination of the chocolate chips and peanut butter. But a few simple changes, and we have a really tasty and healthy treat. They are sweetened with honey and the chocolate chips are sweetened with coconut sugar. Our favorite brand to use is Guittard, linked here.

Another easy swap is the candy coated chocolates. Unreal makes a dye free version that is a little lower in sugars and has simple ingredients. They are easy to find in grocery stores.

These cookies, like most monster cookie recipes, have very little flour in them. This is where you can make them gluten free if you want. I have made these cookies with all purpose flour, gluten free flour, and einkorn flour. And honestly, you can use any kind you want. They come out almost the same. However, I do recommend not replacing the almond flour with any other types of flour. The almond flour contributes to the texture of the cookie.

Customize

Play with different flours to make these cookies fit your family. Each flour has its own benefits, so experiment with some different options or use what you have.

Adding sea salt on top will give the cookies a little extra kick of salt, which goes so well with the chocolate chips and chocolate candies.

Storing the Cookies

These cookies are dense and soft. They can sit on the counter in a glass container or cookie jar for a few days. I swear, the flavors get even better as they sit. And the best thing is that when your kids ask for one for an afternoon snack or when they get home from school, you won’t feel bad about giving them one!

When I make a batch, I will double it, bake all of the cookies, and then throw some in the freezer. These will quickly become a favorite cookie so it is great to have some on hand to pull out when you have company or family in town. Once they thaw, they are just as good as freshly baked!
