Thousand Island Dressing
A homemade dressing is more simple than you think so give this one a try! It is seed oil free and packs a punch of flavor. We love to have this on hand for taco salads, a dip for French fries, and so many other things! It is also a breeze to make using simple ingredients.
Salad dressings are one of those things that pile up in your fridge. The expiration dates pass and they still are sitting in your fridge. They are typically full of preservatives, fillers, and seed oils and simply not the best thing for you to eat.
Here in the Midwest, we LOVE our salad dressings, specifically ranch dressing, but that recipe is for another day! Thousand Island Dressing is a family favorite around here, right along with ranch dressing.
We love to put Thousand Island Dressing on tacos, salads, chicken, burgers, pretty much anything! I created this recipe using simple ingredients and no seed oils. It is tangy, a little sour, and creamy.
Details and Tips!
This dressing is really so easy to make. The hardest part is going to b chopping up the pickles!
To start, you will want an avocado or olive oil mayonnaise. You can make your own (recipe here) or you can find them at the store. Be sure to check the ingredients to make sure the only oil in the dressing is olive or avocado oil.
Once you have your mayonnaise, you chop up some pickles really finely. We like to use the pickles you find in the refrigerated section of the grocery store. They are more of fermented pickle and will not have any preservatives or food dyes.
Then, you just add all of the other ingredients in a bowl and mix it up really well! So simple!
What you need!
- mayonnaise - olive or avocado oil is what you are looking for here. Homemade mayo is so easy too!
- ketchup - organic, using real cane sugar
- chopped pickles - you could also use relish
- pure maple syrup
- garlic powder
- onion powder
- pepper
- salt

Customize!
There really aren't a lot of customizations here. It is really just dependent on the ingredients you use. You could certainly use a more traditional mayonnaise. I just cannot suggest enough to check the ingredients and make sure you are getting the better quality ingredients to make our food the most nutrient dense.
You can also cut back on the pickles or add more depending on your preference! Lastly, if your dressing is a little thick, add some pickle juice or water to loosen it up!
