Tequila Lime Seltzer

Refreshing and perfect for summer! No added sugars, healthier cocktail option!

Happy Summer! I have welcomed summer's arrival this year. Most years, I am not ready for the hot and humid weather that we get in the Midwest. But this year, I was ready to get the girls outside and just enjoy our summer as a family of 5! Whenever the weather starts to warm up, I start to crave a nice refreshing cocktail! Something about sitting on the porch sipping a cocktail on a Friday evening in June just makes me happy.

I am a little picky with what I drink and when I drink. I don't drink often and when I do, I am a little specific, only because I really don't like a lot of different drinks. I don't care for canned seltzers, beer, or a lot of spirits like whiskey and gin. I am simple used to drink vodka, but about 5 years ago, I started drinking tequila drinks and they are so good!

Tequila is a "better" alcohol!

Tequila is known to be a little bit of a "better" alcohol. While no alcohol is great and has plenty of negative affects when consumed, tequila is one that has a little bit less of the negative. It is made from agave so the carb and sugar level is low and it is naturally gluten free. Other alcohols are made from grains, making them a little higher in carbs and sugars. Some even say tequila is easier in digestion which is always a win!

My absolute favorite tequila is Casamigos Reposado. It is made with 100% agave. It lends a vanilla flavor to the cocktails and is so good. If you haven't tried it, I highly recommend it. You can find it quite cheap at Costco! I have tried others but this one is just the best!

No Sugar Cocktail!

When I made this recipe, I wanted it to be a healthier version of a margarita. Is it a margarita? I don't think I can call it that! But it does give the satisfying lemon and lime flavor that is so great in a margarita. Typically a margarita is full of sugar. Most cocktails are that way, honestly. So it was fun to figure out a way to get all of the flavors without the sugar and sweetness. This recipe has no sugar. When I made it for Kollin, he thought it was too tart. If you think it is too tart, I recommend adding a little monk fruit, honey, or maple syrup. Using a natural sweetener will keep your blood sugar from spiking too much. And since tequila has lower sugar content, we don't want to add a bunch of sugar. Let's keep that sugar low!

The lemon and lime juice will give it a little added sugar just because they are fruit juices. There isn't a lot in the drink but it is necessary for the drink to have that refreshing flavor. Use a high quality jarred juice such as Santa Cruz or Lakewood Organics, making sure the only ingredients are the fruit juice, no preservatives or an additives. Organic jarred juices are easy to find at grocery stores. I find mine at Whole Foods.

My favorite brands and go to ingredients for the Tequila Lime Seltzer.

Customize!

This recipe is perfect just the way it is. It is tart and a little carbonated. It is full of lemon and lime flavor. But you can most definitely play around with additions if you prefer. The goal for this was to make a healthy cocktail for when I am craving one. I wanted the ingredients to be simple so there is really nothing fancy about it! But, if you would rather use grapefruit juice or a different favorite juice flavor of yours, go for it! I will mix it up with different juice flavors just for something different every once in a while!

I hope you love this cocktail as much as I do! It will keep you refreshed for summer, especially if you have three kids running around!!
