Cherry Lime Refresher

This Cherry Lime Refresher is my new favorite spring and summer drink! It is so REFRESHing :) and hits the spot midday when I need a change up from my water. It is best enjoyed outside while soaking up some Vitamin D!

But in all seriousness, this drink is really good and loaded with so many health benefits, which I will break down for you below. My mother-in-law made this for me while we were staying at her house and it is so so good. I am hooked. I am also a sucker for anything cherry. As a little girl, I would always go for the red, cherry skittles or cherry suckers. And what about the cherry Kool-Aid?? This brings me back to drinking that as a kid! Since I have matured a little, I love cooking and baking with cherries. An added plus is that my girls love them too! This is a drink added to my arsenal of cherry goodness!

Health Drink!

This drink has some really great health benefits. Now, I am not an expert on health benefits, but from research and experience, there are some great benefits that I have noticed when I drink the Refresher regularly. Let's break them down.

Boosts Metabolism - This Refresher includes Tart Cherry Juice and Lime Juice. Both have many health benefits but a big one is boosting metabolism.

Reduces Anxiety and Stress - Both herbal tea and Tart Cherry Juice are linked to reducing anxiety and stress. Tart Cherry Juice is a natural form of melatonin, improving sleep and reducing anxiety. Herbal teas are known to also have that calming affect.

Anti-inflammatory - Lime Juice and Tart Cherry Juice have digestive support and anti-inflammatory benefits. I have noticed significant differences in the swelling of my hands when drinking this regularly.

Immune Support - We all need extra immune support! Herbal tea and lime juice are great, natural forms of immune support which is always an added bonus.

Tips when searching for the ingredients!

Since the Cherry Lime Refresher has some different ingredients, I want to be sure we are looking for the correct forms to get the most benefits for this drink.

Tart Cherry Juice: There are many options in stores for cherry juice. Tart Cherry Juice is what we are looking for here. It has great, natural health benefits that make this drink amazing. Be sure the only ingredient is tart cherry juice. You do not want any added sugar or preservatives. Even better if it organic. My two favorite brands are Lakewood or R.W. Knudsen. I find these at Whole Foods or HyVee but are easily found at most large grocery stores.

Lime Juice: You will probably expect me to say you must buy fresh limes for this recipe. But I never have fresh limes. I know they are better in taste, but I just don't buy them! I like to find a high quality lime juice to have in the fridge. Again, you want it to be just lime juice on the ingredient list, no added sugar or preservatives. Lakewood and 365 by Whole Foods Market are great organic options.

Black Cherry Berry Tea: I have only been able to find this tea from Celestial Teas. It is found a lot at Natural Grocers but you can also order it on Amazon here! Definitely check your local grocery store tea section to see if you can find it locally!

Steeping Methods!

Since I drink this regularly, I like to make a big jar of tea at one time. I add 10 tea bags to a glass quart mason jar. Then, I fill the jar with boiling water and let it steep for 30 minutes. If the weather is nice and the sun is out, I steep the tea outside for an hour in the sun. To do this, add the tea bags to the jar, fill the jar with filtered water, and set in direct sun, outside. Using this ratio of tea bags to water makes a tea concentrate, making it last a little longer in the fridge!

You can also steep this as you would normal tea, one bag at a time, and let it sit in the fridge to chill.

Cherry Lime Refresher

This is the perfect, healthy drink for summer. It is full of cherry flavor and has so many health benefits.

For the tea concentrate

  • 10 bags of Celestial Black Cherry Berry Tea
  • 4 cups Boiling Water

For the Cherry Lime Refresher

  • 4 ounces tea concentrate
  • 4 ounces tart cherry juice
  • 1 tsp lime juice
  • 4 ounces water
  • Ice

For the tea concentrate

  1. Add the tea bags to a quart glass mason jar or heat safe measuring cup.
  2. Pour the boiling water over the tea bags and let it step for 30 minutes. Remove the tea bags and place the jar in the fridge to cool.
  3. The concentrate will keep in the fridge for 3-5 days.

For the cherry lime refresher

  1. Fill a glass with ice. Add 4 ounces of water and 4 ounces of concentrate to the glass. You can change the ratio if you prefer a more tea forward flavor.
  2. Top with a teaspoon or splash of lime juice and 4 ounces of tart cherry juice. Enjoy!
